Quantum Source is making scalable, useful quantum computers a reality. We are a young, dynamic, and extraordinary multidisciplinary company which combines the skills of quantum physics, optics, mechanical engineering, hardware, firmware, and software.

We are seeking a highly skilled Hardware Architect to join our team.

As a Hardware Architect, you will take a leading part in designing the hardware architecture of a first-of-its-kind photonic-based quantum computer, integrating quantum physics, photonic ICs, hardware, software, and opto-mechanics into a unified, functional system.

We are looking for an experienced architect with a holistic perspective who can navigate requirements from multiple technological domains and balance trade-offs between them. This role requires a quick learner capable of diving into unfamiliar subjects and providing technical leadership without formal authority, working effectively with physicists, engineers, and cross-functional teams. A strong team player who will contribute meaningfully to the System Group’s objectives.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain a holistic perspective on the system’s hardware, ensuring scalability and alignment with requirements.
  • Collaborate closely within the System Group to drive cross-functional alignment on system architecture and hardware requirements.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to define hardware architecture, setting detailed system and components requirements.
  • Develop comprehensive system designs, including hardware interfaces, configuration, and performance specifications.
  • Ensure seamless integration across all system components to meet performance and functionality targets.
  • Evaluate and assess new technologies for potential use in system design.
  • Partner with physicists, hardware and software engineers to design and develop system components.

Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related field (advanced degree preferred).
  • 7+ years of experience in system architecture within multi-disciplinary technology fields (systems, HW, Embedded SW, Algorithms, Opto-mechanics, etc.).
  • Strong leadership skills; Capable of leading without formal authority.
  • Quick to learn and able to dive deeply into unfamiliar topics, and comfortable navigating through uncertain/unstructured environments.
  • Strong understanding of system design principles and practices.
  • Experience in writing detailed specifications and system documentation.
  • Experience with project management and cross-functional team leadership.
  • Strong R&D background in Opto-mechanical system integration, SW, and electronics integration.
  • Experience in the quantum computing industry – advantage.
