Quantum System Architect
Quantum Source
Quantum System Architect – Job Description
Quantum Source is making scalable, useful quantum computers a reality. We are a young, dynamic, and extraordinary multidisciplinary company which combines the skills of quantum physics, optics, mechanical engineering, hardware, firmware, and software.
We are seeking a highly skilled Quantum System Architect to join our team.
As a Quantum System Architect, you will take a leading role in the design and architecture of the quantum information building blocks of our system. This position involves merging advanced quantum physics concepts with novel photonic IC designs, hardware, software, and opto-mechanical elements into a cohesive system. You will also oversee quantum gates’ performance and manage the error budget to meet requirements.
We’re looking for an exceptional individual with a holistic perspective who can balance requirements across diverse technological domains, navigate trade-offs, and drive system performance. The ideal candidate has a strong background in quantum physics, learns quickly and thrives in a multi-disciplinary environment. You’ll provide technical leadership without formal authority, working effectively with physicists and engineers as a key contributor to the System Group.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain a quantum information perspective on the system, understanding the physical impact of each parameter on overall performance.
- Collaborate closely within the System Group to drive cross-functional alignment on system architecture.
- Define performance requirements for both short- and long-term goals, especially for quantum gates.
- Run and analyze quantum-level simulations to evaluate performance and derive precise requirements for key elements of the system.
- Maintain a strong connection to the hardware components and design efforts.
- Collaborate closely with theoretical and experimental physicists, photonic IC engineers, and broader cross-functional teams to define architecture and component specifications.
- Ensure alignment on system scalability and requirements across teams.
- Evaluate emerging technologies and assess their potential integration into system design.
Requirements:
- Master’s degree in Physics, or a related field (Ph.D. or equivalent experience is a plus).
- Proficiency in Python and strong software skills.
- Strong quantum physics background, and familiarity in quantum information and its technical applications.
- 5+ years of experience in system engineering/architecture within multi-disciplinary technology domains (e.g., systems, HW, Embedded SW, Algorithms, Opto-mechanics).
- Strong leadership skills; Capable of leading without formal authority.
- Quick to learn and able to dive deeply into unfamiliar topics, and comfortable navigating through uncertain/unstructured environments.
- Experience in the quantum computing industry is a significant advantage.
